“This band is a dream to play with, I feel so at home on stage with this great group of soloists. The making of the album has been a long journey, some of the tracks were written in the 90’s.”
In 2012 Jesse formed the Jazz Quartet Play Out with Seb Rochford (Polar Bear) Zoe Rahman and Kenny Higgins (Corrine Bailey Rae).
The bands debut gig was at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank Centre, London. They then went on to make an album in an old Church studio with a Steinway D Grand piano, this was recorded by ‘BBC Folk award-winning’ engineer Andy Bell (Bellowhead).
The album was the premier release of Vin Gadher (Skatalites, Talvin Singh and Manika Kaur) with record label United Sound Records.
“The recording was an intense process for us all and we managed to find a flow to get the best from a live quartet recording.”
The Pearl was recorded first. The video is a 30 minute time lapse made in Jesse’s garden.
Previous Indo-Jazz Incarnations
My own Indo-Jazz vision started in 1996 in a club in Leeds. Inspired by the UK Asian Underground movement;
“I strove to create my own Indo-Jazz identity, that drew on my mixed heritage and cultural exposure in London”
In 1994 Jesse formed a production partnership called Pinjab with Tabla player Bhupinder Chaggar.
Pinjab was followed by Raga Nova in 1997 with Dharambir Singh, sitar and Grammy Winner Sukhwinder Singh, tabla.
In 2005 he co-formed Samay, a five piece indo jazz ensemble.
